Stenton
Stenton Precinct
The Stenton precinct in Glenrothes lies between Finglassie and the Bankhead West Industrial Estate towards the southern end of Glenrothes. The district takes its name from a small fermtoun (known as Stenton or Over Stenton) located to the northwest of the precinct and listed on the Ordnance Survey map of 1856. (Fermtouns were small clusters of houses and outbuildings that were occupied by tenants who worked the land.)
Following the same naming scheme that was used in the neighbouring precinct of Pitteuchar to the north, the Stenton streets are named after Scottish castles (Balmanno, Balmoral, Brodie, Crathie, Drum, Dunrobin, Fernie, Floors, Fyvie, Hatton, Hermitage, Kellie, Mar, Melvile, Mey, Rowalan, Ruthven, Sorn, Tarvit, & Urquhart). Facilities include the Stenton Jubilee Centre and the Foxton Bar and Grill, while the Stenton Pond and Wetlands are located within a strip of woodlands to the south of the town.
